Dyana's Initial Training Plan
The plan is for Dyana to go to Kentucky this summer and stay in training with Brian for 60-90 days with key evaluation discussions occurring often. If she demonstrates natural ability and is enjoying race training, she will go back to full training at the track in the spring of 2021 after a relaxed winter at home with the goal of her first race in 2021 when she is 3 years old.
This journey will most likely be hardest for me to adjust since she's been my "little" baby girl ever since the day she was born, but I know this next chapter in her life is the right step in her development.
Thank you for your support and for continuing to follow Dyana's journey!

Day of Training for Dyana
I am excited to have found Brian Waltz to be Dyana's initial race trainer. I heard SEVERAL outstanding reviews of Brian before I even contacted him, and in speaking with him I know he is the right trainer to give Dyana a slow start while providing me with an HONEST opinion of her natural ability.
The plan is for Dyana to stay in training with Brian for 60-90 days with key evaluation discussions occurring often. If after 30 days she does not seem to be adapting, she will come home, but if she shows any interest in the daily routine, she will stay for her second 30 days. At the end of 60 days if she shows some promise as a racehorse, she will stay for an extra 30 days. If she seems to lack natural ability or just seems to need a break, she will come home after 60 days instead of 90 days. If she demonstrates natural ability and is enjoying race training, she will go back to full training at the track in the spring of 2021 after a relaxedwinter at home.
Brian works out of Highpointe Thoroughbred Farm in LaGrange, KY which is an exceptional thoroughbred training center located between Louisville and Lexington. The farm contains 235 acres of beautiful Kentucky land with three different training tracks. There is an outdoor 3/4 mile oval track of a typical sand and soil surface that is a registered work facility with Jockey Club certification for clocking qualifying work out times for Thoroughbreds. There is also an outdoor 3/4 uphill poly track that is made to insure a soft surface for the young horses in training. The third training area is a 81600 square foot indoor poly fiber training track and arena with a small apartment in the middle along with a dew holding stalls. Other improvements on the farm are 6 barns with 50 plus stalls each and an associated automatic walker for each barn, some are connected and/or close by. There is a superior office and veterinary complex which was designed for x-ray capabilities and a surgery suite as well as high quality stalls for horses and a laundry. The property includes several scenic fishing ponds that provide a quiet oasis on the farm.

Tank of Gas for Truck Transport to/from Kentucky
Getting Dyana to/from Kentucky will require fuel for the truck to haul her trailer.
Tank of Gas for Car Visits to Kentucky
We all know that I will have major anxiety if I don't go visit Dyana weekly while she's in Kentucky for training. Help me get to/from Kentucky for as many visits as possible by sponsoring a tank of fuel for the car.
Leather Halter with Brass Name Plate
Only a few left!
Dyana wants to look her best, and having nice leather halters with her name on a brass nameplate will definitely help her do that. She requested 2 halters so she can have one for every day and one for special occasions.
Custom Stall Guard
Only a few left!
Dyana wants to stand out for all the right reasons, and a custom stall guard in her favorite colors will help her do that. Picture is only an example and not the design that will be produced.
Custom Racing Silks
Sold out
If Dyana is going to stand out on race day, she will need her very own custom racing silks for the jockey to wear. Hopefully the silks will inspire her enough to help her turn them into classics ready to hang in the racing hall of fame. ;-)
Custom Racing Saddle Blankets
Sold out
Dyana is going to need her own fancy saddle blankets to help make her stand out. One of the saddle blankets Zenyatta wore is pictured for hopeful inspiration :-)
A Bag of Dyana's Favorite Treats
Dyana loves treats, and Mrs. Pastures Cookies are definitely her favorite, so she'll be happy to have as many bags on hand as possible.
Jolly Ball
Only a few left!
The Jolly Ball is a great enrichment toy that helps alleviate boredom, and will be a great addition to her stall at the track especially since she's used to having them in her stall at home. Crafted using durable materials, it’s made to last. And unlike other ball toys, this one features an air-free design, maintaining its shape even if punctured from chewing or from playing. This versatile toy’s handle has a large hole for hanging in stalls or throwing in pasture. It’s made in the USA with safe materials.
Barefoot Hoof Trim
Sold out
Dyana has been getting her hooves trimmed every 4 weeks since she was only a few weeks old, and she will continue to get barefoot trims every 4 weeks until she has to wear shoes. Even then, she will go back to barefoot when she's on breaks from racing. No hoof, no horse.
Hoof Trim and Shoes
Only a few left!
Dyana will need to get racing shoes for the track after she gets through the first phase of her training.
Chiropractic Adjustment or Massage for Dyana
Regular chiropractic adjustments and massage sessions will be key to helping keep Dyana in optimal condition and feeling her best, and she will get each of them monthly at a minimum but more as is needed.
Pre-Training X-Rays - Each View
Sold out
Before Dyana goes into full training, she will have both knees, all four ankles, and both hocks x-rayed to make sure the joints are strong and ready for increased work. In total this will be about 16 separate x-ray views to get a complete picture of all the key joints.
Endoscopic Exam
Only a few left!
This will be a very important step before Dyana is put into rigorous training because if there are any weaknesses discovered in her larynx, she will not be raced.A scope is used to look specifically at the structure and function of the larynx. The larynx is a complex valve located at the back of the throat just above the trachea ('windpipe'). The larynx is made of cartilage, muscle and nerves and is covered by a mucous membrane. It, and particularly the arytenoid cartilages that form the front of the larynx, act as a valve to prevent food from being inhaled when the horse eats (it closes tightly during swallowing) while allowing the maximum amount of air to enter the lungs during exercise (it opens fully when the horse breathes in). Also, it is the organ of voice production. While this is most important in humans it is of secondary consideration for the racehorse.
Veterinary Health Certificate for Interstate Travel
Only a few left!
When Dyana crosses the border between Ohio and Kentucky for her training, she will need to travel with a health certificate that is less than 30-days old. This means she will need a minimum of two health certificates - one for her trip to Kentucky and one for her return home.
Coggins Bloodwork Test for Travel
Only a few left!
The Coggins test checks for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) antibodies in the horse's blood. Blood samples must be sent to a state approved laboratory. This test is often needed to take a horse to a new facility, show, or whenever you transport a horse across state lines.
Equine Insurance - $1,000 of Coverage
Sold out
I know there will always be a risk of injury or even death every time I put Dyana out in the pasture, load her into the horse trailer, or put a saddle on her back. Having mortality insurance coverage obviously won't prevent anything, but it will make it much easier to pick up the pieces if anything does happen. Insurance policies are very limited for horses in race training, but I would like to have a $10,000 mortality policy at a minimum.
