Thank you to everyone who has offered to help cover the medical expenses for Luci's C-Section. It's certainly been a rough year between Paycasso needing to be hospitalized at only 36 hours old and then Luci needing the emergency C-Section and subsequent days in the hospital with Caesar.
I want to reiterate that as an owner and breeder I assume full responsibility for the expenses of my horses, but I also am not too proud to accept help when it is offered. If you would like to help, here are some ways to consider.

Donate to Mareworthy Charities
Although Luci and Dyana are NOT part of Mareworthy, their expenses do have a direct impact on Sean's and my ability to donate to Mareworthy. Typically, Sean and I cover about $2,000 to $3,000 each month to Mareworthy to help support the 11 horses currently in Mareworthy's care. Your donation to Mareworthy is fully tax deductible and goes directly to Mareworthy's bank account. You can learn more about Mareworthy at www.mareworthy.com and you can even see the full financial report for the first quarter of 2024 at www.mareworthy.com/pasturepals |
Make a payment to our account at Hagyard
If you'd prefer funds to go directly to supporting Sean and me, you can consider making a payment directly to Hagyard either on their website or by calling. To make a payment, you will need the account information for Horse Husband Stables. Farm/Customer Name: Horse Husband Stables Account Number: 141665 By phone: call (859) 255-8746 Online: https://billpay.hagyard.com/ Name, Address, Phone, and Email: Enter the information that matches your credit card |
Attend an Upcoming Clinic with me at the farm
I added three upcoming dates for clinics at our farm in Georgetown, Kentucky, and you do not need to have a horse (or even any previous horse experience) to attend. You can find more information and register at https://www.ottbguy.com/store/p36/All-Level_Horse_Handling_Workshop%3A_Enhance_Communication_%26_Skills_with_Kyle_the_OTTB_Mare_Guy.html |
Send Notes of Thanks to Our Veterinarians
We wouldn't be able to care for Paycasso, Luci, and Caesar so well without all the support we get from Dr. Growette on a daily basis, and we also owe a sea of gratitude to the entire staff at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute
Will you help me flood their mail with Thank You cards for everything they've done to help?
And if you have animals, please consider sending a handwritten thank you card to the staff that supports you.

Kyle Rothfus aka the OTTB Mare Guy
My training philosophy relies on establishing a strong connection through ground work and desensitization to result in a greater working relationship under saddle. I do that by building upon 4 C's that start by thoroughly observing the horse so I can take everything into consideration as I develop a plan for clear communication that can result in connection to build confidence.
Although I have experience working with several breeds, I especially enjoy focusing on off track Thoroughbreds with an even more specific passion for OTTB warhorse mares.

Secret's journey from dangerous and defensive to cuddly and trusting has been all about kindness, patience, consistency, and safety (both mine and giving her confidence about her own safety), but those should really be the building blocks of working with any horse. Secret is an amazing ambassador for Mareworthy. She demonstrates everything I'm hoping to help support: Thoroughbred mares at higher risk of being mistreated or neglected because they're misunderstood and in need of slow transitions into new lives.
